  1. How do I get help with a problem in PeopleSoft or other CMS systems? (Back to Top)

The IRT Help Desk provides first level end user support for both functional and technical problems. An employee should call the Help Desk (77677) for assistance. A trained staff of campus subject matter experts (SMEs) will assist the user in resolving the problem.

  2. I forgot my My Password or User Name? (Back to Top)

An employee should call the Help Desk (77677) for assistance. A trained staff of campus subject matter experts (SMEs) will assist the user in resolving the problem.

  3. What information can I access via the web? (Back to Top)

A variety of data is available on the CMS Web Site. Process guides, flowcharts and other procedural documentation is available to the campus as well as information related to training, and on-going project updates.

  4. How do I get access to PeopleSoft? (Back to Top)

In order to gain access to the PeopleSoft databases, you must complete the appropriate training. Once training is complete and a signed Computerized Information access request form has been turned in, Security will assign a User ID and password. Please note that you may be assigned a User ID and password for each module. For more information go to the Security page.

  5. Is there more than one type of access to the system? (Back to Top)

Yes. Separate access is granted for each of the following systems:, PeopleSoft Human Resources and Financials, the Student System (SIS+), Advance to mention a few. Additionally, both PeopleSoft HR and Financials have separate Reporting instances. Access to each of these instances is granted and maintained independently. Remember that you must complete all appropriate training and turn in all required Forms before you can gain access to any of these systems. Your User ID and password for one system will not work on another.

  6. If I change my password on one system, does it change for all of them? (Back to Top)

No. Each system and instance has its own password, including the Reporting instances of each system. This means that if you change your password for PeopleSoft HR Production, it will not change for PeopleSoft Finance. Please be aware of this when changing or receiving a reset password.

  7. What software do I need installed on my computer? (Back to Top)

To navigate and process normal transactions in Finance and HR, you need to have Internet Explorer or another compatible web browser installed on your machine. IRT Support Help Desk or your Department Technical support staff area able to assist with installing the appropriate browser.

    Internet Explorer is recommended.

  8. Is there a time-out on the system that will automatically log me out? (Back to Top)

The timeout for all users in both the HRand Finance databases is set to 15 minutes.

  9. Is the system available all the time? Even nights and weekends? (Back to Top)

In general, the system is available every day. There are scheduled maintenance windows that could delay access to the system.

  10. Can I access PeopleSoft from my home computer? (Back to Top)

The HR and Financials databases are available via the Internet and do not require special access to connect from home. You will need an Internet Service Provider and a modem connected to your home PC. Please be advised that at this time there is no telecommuting policy on campus so theoretically there should not be regular telecommuting occurring because of potential legal liability for the University. For additional information on telecommuting, please contact your manager.

  11. Can I access PeopleSoft on a Macintosh computer? (Back to Top)

Yes. If you work on a Mac, you will be able to access the system. The HR and Finance databases are accessed via the Internet, so there is no extra software necessary.

  12. How do I take a "picture" of a page? (Back to Top)

For a quick screenshot, you can press Alt-Print Screen on your keyboard to copy the panel shot. You can then open a desktop publishing program (such as Word) or photo editing program and paste the image using the Edit functions (Ctrl-V is the keyboard shortcut). If you need to take multiple pictures, a piece of software like SnagIt! may be more appropriate. You can contact your local tech support to find out about available software.

If you want to print out a page in databases and systems accessed via the Web, you can use the browser print button to print the current page of data you are looking at.

  13. Can I use Netscape to access PeopleSoft? (Back to Top)

    Possibly. IE is preferred.

  14. Will I have to attend training again? (Back to Top)

You will be required to take online training or attend in-person training to obtain access in the upgraded system. This will be dependant upon your current access to the system and the number/type of changes in functionality. You may re-take courses as often as needed.

  15. When do I get to see the new software? (Back to Top)

The CMS team has begun offering in-person demos of the product to systems testers. For more information go to CMS Forum Page.

  16. Will there be any new functionality? (Back to Top)

We anticipate some new functionality to be available and will provide details as they become available.

  17. Will my reports be different? (Back to Top)

All reporting will be reviewed and some reports you run now may change. We will be working with some of you to ensure we deliver the reports you need.

  18. Why do we have to upgrade the software? (Back to Top)

Support for the current software expires in the near future, and therefore, we must move forward in order to continue to receive support from Oracle/PeopleSoft. In addition, we need to upgrade in order to take advantage of enhanced and new functionality.
